Inspiring innovation.

Colliers Project Leaders provided project management services for the New Lanphier Center for Mathematics and Computer Science at Choate Rosemary Hall. The 34,000 square foot building supports a new curriculum that goes beyond the traditional STEM subjects — science, technology, engineering, and mathematics — to incorporate the arts. Home to teaching spaces for subjects ranging from robotics to sculpture, the building acknowledges the increasing importance of design-related disciplines. The emphasis on collaborative learning extends throughout the building. In addition to classrooms and labs, the Lanphier Center includes informal gathering spaces where students can meet and study.

The building was designed to meet LEED Gold Certification. Both building systems and materials were chosen for sustainability. Locally-produced, natural, recycled-content, and high-performance materials were all a part of the building’s fabric. Low velocity displacement ventilation provides fresh air with very little energy use. All rooms have operable windows with automatic sensors to turn off the mechanical ventilation when windows are opened. In addition, light sensors monitor daylight and adjust lighting levels. These elements all work to help reduce the energy use of the Lanphier Center. The building uses less than 35 percent of the energy of a conventional building.

As the owner’s project manager, we provided project management and building commissioning services. In this capacity, we developed an initial financial feasibility analysis for the project and was directly responsible for the project planning, budgeting, design/construction oversight, commissioning, move coordination, and closeout of the project.

In addition, we have provided Choate Rosemary Hall with a facilities conditions assessment to determine the deferred maintenance backlog of its existing facilities. As part of the school’s deferred maintenance phase-out and modernization program, we have also provided project management services for several projects including: the Icahn Science Center, the Lowndes Building Demolition, the New Residence Hall Planning, the New Student Center Planning, the New Turf Fields Project, the St. John Chapel Renovation, and the St. John Hall Renovation.
